Not sure what to say?

Hello Bonnie, I know Roger's passing will always be an an empty place. I have thought about you all often, and I would like to share a poem I wrote with you. Benediction Glowing sunset blessing sand, blood of Sun's decline. Smoothly slipping touching water, silken sheen of tide. Amber into burnished dark with purple hues of night, gently blending wave by wave till sound replaces sight. You are in my thoughts.

It's nice to be a part of the huge group of people, students and friends who loved being with Roger. We were all so lucky. What a treat life is with guys like Roger who was always interested. Bonnie and Zack & family will always feel that rattle and quiet reverberance of their lives co mingled. Thank you for sharing his brilliance with the rest of us.

Sadly, I just learned of Roger's passing. He was perhaps my influential teacher at Willamette...he opened the door to a world of art and beauty, helped me to develop confidence in my academic skills and what might be possible after I graduated. I am so glad I was able to tell him a year or so ago how important he had been to me, how much he had inspired me. I am so sorry he is gone, and extend my deep sympathy to Bonnie and to Zachary (who I used to babysit!).

Dr. Hull was one of my favorite professors at Willamette from `71-`75! What an engaging teacher with a very unique style. So knowledgeable and patient with the many art history neophytes. I always remember the way he would lower his head, look over his black rimmed glasses and scratch his chin contemplating how he might best present material or answer a question. So wonderful to see all his many accomplishments but so sad to hear of a great mind now gone. Condolences to all his family and...

I took two Roger Hull art history courses at Willamette University and he opened up a whole world of art, culture, and history for me, which I´ve carried throughout my travels. He was a delightful guide and professor. I count myself among the many fortunate students in his classes. I imagine he´s having a wonderful time meeting the great artists of all time in a better place. Thank you Professor Hull for illuminating our world and enriching our lives.

Roger was a very special person - as both one of the greatest educators I have known and as a wonderful person to spend time and travel with, especially the Florence Program. His Gothic to Modern Art History class was almost a mandatory class for those of us at the Sigma Chi house and transformative in our thinking. To this day all of us exposed to him revel in the arts and seek them out in our travels and life. He will always be part of us and I am grateful for the time we got to share...
