Roger Jordan HICKORY Roger Winslow Jordan, 77, of Hickory passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born March 31, 1936 in Perquimans, he was the adopted son of the late Mclhrie Glennwood and Marie Alpine Chappell Jordan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Winslow. Roger was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force, including caring for President Dwight Eisenhower's airplane. Although he endured physical illness for decades, which kept him "homebound", he was frequently not at home, traveling with his supportive wife. His faith in God gave him hope when he felt down or had doubts. As his favorite hymn says, "Are you weak and heavy laden? Take it to the Lord in prayer." Although people first may have noticed his twisted hands and electric wheelchair, after meeting him, they knew him more for his smiling eyes, his inner strength, his sharp wit and his deep faith. Mr. Jordan is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marcia Lantz Jordan; two sons, the Rev. Dr. Rick Jordan and wife, Dr. Susan Jordan, of Lewisville and Michael Stewart Jordan and wife, Kim, of Newton; two daughters, the Rev. Cindy Jordan, of Hickory and Beth Jordan Puckett and husband, Robert, of Connelly Springs; a sister, Mae Weaver, of Yorktown, Va.; grandchildren, Shawn Severt, Alexa Jordan, Todd Jordan, Ben Jordan, Chris Severt, Stefan Jordan, Whitley Severt, Kirstie Puckett and Kelsey Puckett; and one great-grand-daughter, Lily Rain Severt. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Viewmont Baptist Church, with the Revs. Kathy Naish and Nancy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Military Honors by the NC National Guard and the American Legion Post 48 of Hickory. The family will receive friends prior to the service from, 1 to 3 p.m. at the church.
