Roger Jordan HICKORY Roger Winslow Jordan, 77, of Hickory passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born March 31, 1936 in Perquimans, he was the adopted son of the late Mclhrie Glennwood and Marie Alpine Chappell Jordan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Winslow. Roger was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force, including caring for President Dwight Eisenhower's airplane. Although he endured physical illness for decades, which kept him "homebound", he was frequently not at home, traveling with his supportive wife. His faith in God gave him hope when he felt down or had doubts. As his favorite hymn says, "Are you weak and heavy laden? Take it to the Lord in prayer." Although people first may have noticed his twisted hands and electric wheelchair, after meeting him, they knew him more for his smiling eyes, his inner strength, his sharp wit and his deep faith. Mr. Jordan is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marcia Lantz Jordan; two sons, the Rev. Dr. Rick Jordan and wife, Dr. Susan Jordan, of Lewisville and Michael Stewart Jordan and wife, Kim, of Newton; two daughters, the Rev. Cindy Jordan, of Hickory and Beth Jordan Puckett and husband, Robert, of Connelly Springs; a sister, Mae Weaver, of Yorktown, Va.; grandchildren, Shawn Severt, Alexa Jordan, Todd Jordan, Ben Jordan, Chris Severt, Stefan Jordan, Whitley Severt, Kirstie Puckett and Kelsey Puckett; and one great-grand-daughter, Lily Rain Severt. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Viewmont Baptist Church, with the Revs. Kathy Naish and Nancy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Military Honors by the NC National Guard and the American Legion Post 48 of Hickory. The family will receive friends prior to the service from, 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. The Roseman Class and the Men's Monday Night Dinner Group will serve as honorary pallbearers. Grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Viewmont Baptist Church, Benevolence Fund, 1246 2nd St. NE, Hickory, NC 28601; Safe Harbor Rescue Fund, 210 2nd St. SE, Hickory, NC 28602; or Cooperative Christian Ministry, 31 1st Ave. SE, Hickory, NC 28602. Not sure what to say?

2 weeks ago today, my Daddy went to be with his creator. I admit that my human selfishness misses him so very much and wishes I could have him back, but my with my faith, I am happy for him and I know that he is joyfully dancing in Heaven. What a Friend we have in Jesus. I can't wait to see you again Dad. I LOVE and MISS you. Love your chickadee.

Marcia I am so sorry for your loss. You and family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Rick and Family, may you feel God's love and comfort as you process your loss of this dear man in your lives. Many prayer warriors are lifting you up!

To The Jordan Family,
I extend to all my sincere condolences
in the death of Roger, your husband, father, or uncle. Roger was a dear friend to me. He always had a smile
ready for everyone and was so positive
about life even in the situation he found himself in. And was always ready
to witness for Jesus Christ at every
opportunity. He was a hero of mine in the class of John Quinn when it came to serving Christ and "speaking" out about his faith. He loved God the Father,...

Cindy,
You friends at Unifour Christian Fellowship Church are praying for you and know that the God of all comfort will be with you and your family during the loss of your dad. Peace and Love Pastor Calvin and the Unifour Congregation.

Rick, please know that we are keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Your father sounds like an amazing man, and devoted follower of Christ. Loss is never easy, but Paul and I rejoice that he's now upright and walking with our Lord!

Ric, you and your family are in my prayers.
