Roger V. McMaster

Diana, Roger was a good friend and a beautiful person. I miss all the good times we had, the memories we shared and the laughter. You are so blessed to have him as your soul mate for 35 years. When I get to Heaven, he will be one of the first people I look up, after Jesus, of course!

Diana, I am so ashamed to have sent an email to Roger about a missed Christmas card. I write this before replying to your email response that informed me of Roger's passing last Christmas.

As Captains in 1981-82, we worked together in the S3 Plans and Operations Section, 1-41st Infantry. Roger could always find the upside of any situation, no matter how dire the circumstances.

Major McMaster, US Army (Infantry), retired was an outstanding leader and mentor to me at Southeast Missouri State University. He embodied everything I believe an Army officer should always strive to be. He's is the main reason I chose to be an Aviation officer back in 1990 and told me that I could do anything I would strive to do. Roger was my Professor of Military Science. He was a very fine officer and instructor, my mentor, with a simple humanity about him and a fantastic sense of humor, I think all of my Cadet friends loved that man and we have followed him anywhere. Til we meet again Sir. God speed.

It was my incredible privilege to serve with Roger and his wife (Diane) for a few years at District 17. Roger was the type of person that everyone wants to know. Bald Hills was so unbelievably fortunate to have Roger guiding the way at a time of turmoil. If it wasn't for the efforts of Roger and Bill, the future of D17 would have been bleak. I feel so honored and fortunate to have known Roger. Duty. Honor. Country.
