As a 19 year old Iowan, I bought "Songs of the Humpback Whale" in 1971. Thank goodness for Roger´s commitment to these amazing creatures that I have loved for over 50 years!

Mr. Paynes extraordinary knowledge of whales was amazing! He will be missed for sharing such information with us. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Thankful for Dr. Payne's gift of discovering, recording, and sharing these beautiful whale sounds with the world. How can anyone's heart not warm and soften upon hearing them? Would that all of the sounds in the world were so peaceful, gentle and calming. My condolences to the family for your indescribeable loss. What a legacy your father has left for the ages!

Roger was a mentor and friend who had a huge influence on my life. I am ever grateful for all he did to make us aware of the beauty and intelligence of the natural world. He lives on in so many hearts and so many ways.
