Pereira, Roger V., age 65, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on March 14, 2025, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Maria; and his two sons, Bruno and David Pereira; other relatives and friends.
You might not find Roger Pereira 's name in a history book or listed on a monument but anyone who had the fortune of meeting him will remember him. He was the type of man who brought a smile to everyone's face no matter the situation. He wasn't always the life of the party but every gathering he attended was funnier and better with his wit and comical nature on display.
Despite all the jokes and smiling, Roger had a tough childhood during his time in Portugal. The son of a fisherman, he lost his birth mom before the age of ten. In spite of his dad's later wives, he was the one responsible for taking care of his siblings. As he matured and completed his time in the military with the French Foreign Legion stationed in Saudi Arabia, he returned to Portugal took on a trade in the form of a woodworking apprenticeship that gave him an outlet for carpentry and using his hands that would serve him throughout his life. After his apprenticeship, he started learning to be an electrician before life threw him another curveball and he met his future wife, Maria.
While he had all the skills and courses completed, he took a sabbatical that prevented him from graduating. While he never became a full-fledged electrician, he was gifted a very distinct consolation in the form of his first son Bruno. It was shortly after his son's birth that he would make the hardest trip of his life and immigrated to America by way of New Jersey.
The transition was tough as he worked any menial jobs to put food on the table. Eventually he found himself working his way up the chain in an appliance factory to foreman. It was during this time he was surprised with the blessing of another son. Unfortunately, tragedy struck again as a workplace accident resulting in spinal surgery prompted a need to leave the Garden State for the sunny state of Florida. The adjustment was hard both physically and financially, but he started working with his newly college graduated son in carpentry as a handyman. No matter the project, Roger found a way to see it through to the end and make it work out whether for his job or around the house. There was nothing he could not fix or Jerry rig to get the job done. As the housing market fizzled, he pivoted into the moving business starting from the ground up again away from his family down in Dade County as he made his way up to foreman for several employers. Even as some of his acquaintances and employers took him for granted, he continued to try to help those whenever he could. He was loved by all of his coworkers as he was always there to lend them a hand no matter how difficult the workload. Sadly, this was the job that took its biggest toll as another misfortune on the job left him recovering from a stopped heart, a three-month coma, and 65% traumatic brain injury that impacted his quality of life until the time of his death.
In spite all the hardships and tragedy, he was able to spend his final years with his wife and sons by his side in a home he owned. He kept joking and smiling despite how tough the world had been on him and how little help he had outside of the home he had with his family. He is succeeded by his wife and two sons who not only lost a family member but one of the best friends a person could ask for in this life.
