Roger “Bucky” Prevost, 86, of Barton, passed away in Lebanon, New Hampshire on Thursday, December 7, 2006.
He was born on September 26, 1920 in Derby, the son of Louis and Bertha (Couture) Provost.
He served in the US Marines during WWII and was stationed in Okinawa in the Asiatic Pacific Theaters, often as a marksman riding heavy equipment to protect the operator. Over the years Bucky personified the word entrepreneur, owning a dry cleaning business, several laundry mats, a restaurant, a hotel, three post offices, among several of his business ventures. He also sold artesian wells for Cushing, drove oil drilling trucks and made trips to Portland, worked for John Deere, owned his own dairy farm and the last few years drove a VA Government van, a job he enjoyed tremendously. Over the years he and his family went to Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, and to Nova Scotia to go lobster fishing. His real love was Vermont and being home. He was a member of the American Legion Barton Post #76, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Barton Bishop Ryan Council #2933.
On August 20, 1951, Roger married Betty Comstock, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Betsey Prevost-Ricciardi and her husband Alfred of Scottsdale, Arizona, his brother, Richard “Pinky” Provost of Derby, his sister, Marguerite Smyrski of Montpelier, sister-in-law, Sally Provost, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roland, Paul, Romeo “Red” and George, and by his sister, Anita Curran.
