Not sure what to say?

Roger was a brilliant scholar, a wonderful teacher, and an inspiring mentor. His door was always open, his words encouraging. He was exceptionally kind and supportive and had a gentleness of spirit; truly, the last of the great academics. I feel honored to have known him. Many condolences to the Salomon family.

Roger offered me a position as an assistant professor in 1975. By the time I left Cleveland in 1980, he had offered far more: teaching opportunities that broadened my intellectual horizons, administrative responsibilities that strengthened my confidence, and friendship that I have cherished ever since. Like so many others, I'm grateful to have been touched by his powerful mind and his generous spirit.

Roger was an incredibly gifted teacher and scholar. He was also a remarkable human being -- caring, thoughtful, gracious, and generous in spirit and so many other ways. I valued his wisdom, his transformative way of reading and thinking, and his friendship.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Roger Salomon, whom we, his students, so deeply respected. He was brilliant, gracious, and so very generous. He showed us what it was to honor what he once called "the monastic discipline" of scholarship. It was a blessing to have known "RBS," that great gentleman.

I had Roger as a graduate student in the 1960s. I can only second what Mary Van Nortwick says. An inspiring and wonderful teacher. I still remember siting in his seminars and learning so much.

Roger was my doctoral dissertation advisor. What a wonderful teacher and mentor he was. I always think of him with great gratitude and admiration.

Dear Salomon family, our deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved husband, father and grandfather. May your memories carry you through this difficult time.
