Chicopee- Roger G. Williams, a longtime resident of Chicopee, passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2024 at the age of 76. The son of Shirley (Griswold) Whittier and the late Roger Gardner Williams, he was born on May 7, 1947 in Windsor, VT. Following his high school graduation, Roger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Corporal, before being honorably discharged. He was a recipient of National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Stars, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with a Bronze Star. After his time in the USMC, Roger was self-employed, working as a carpenter. Roger is survived by his wife, Barbara (Dutton) Williams, whom he married in 2014, his mother, Shirley Whittier of Port Charlotte, FL, and a sister, Cheryl Sbrega, of South Carolina. In addition to his father, Roger was also predeceased by his sister, Vicki DeForge, in 2013. Funeral services for Roger will take place on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee, MA. Calling hours will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm, with a prayer service to being shortly before 1:00. Committal services, complete with military honors, will immediately follow at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA.
