Deacon Roger “Jack” Virgil Williams, 91, passed away at his residence in Fredericksburg, VA, on May 2, 2025.


Born May 7, 1933 to the late Chester and Marie Williams. He was the youngest of four children. Both parents passed away at a young age. After the passing of both parents, he lived with his grandparents, Virgil and Ruth Williams.


In 1950, he graduated from Walker Grant High School. After working various jobs, he joined the United Sates Army.


Once he returned home from the US Army, he worked at the FMC plant for 24 years, until it closed. Then worked construction until his retirement in 2011.


Roger played baseball for the local negro league, the “Spotsylvania Yellow Jackets”. He enjoyed watching football, especially his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed old western tv shows and religion channels.


Roger was a longtime member of Mount Hope Baptist Church, where he became a Deacon in his later years. He was generous, caring and willing to lend a helping hand.


He was proceeded in death by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Peggy Williams; brothers, Lenroy Williams, Alton “Dick” Williams; and sister, Leoma “Leakie” Stanford.


He is survived by two sons, Konard Williams and Travis Williams; goddaughter, Brittany Robinson; several nieces, and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.


A viewing will be held at Mount Hope Baptist Church, 6823 Harrison Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Glen Haven Memory Gardens, 1392 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22406.
