To the family,

Roger was a real inspiration, mentor and leader. He was my scout leader as a child from Mt. Calary Baptist Church on John St. in Springfield. He made sure he met the families of the children that were entrusted in his care. The last time we met, we spoke about many memories we had when I was a child and growing up.

He will be missed by all. All of you are in my prayers.

I will always remember my first meeting with Roger in 1983 at St. John's Church at a City Council debate.

Someone asked all the Council candidates a question about all the money being spent in the central business district and the lack of money being spent in the neighborhoods and particularly the "Winchester Square Neighborhood".
