Not sure what to say?

I met Roland in 1986, when we worked together to negotiate a contract with Hillsboro. He was a delight to team up with and we remained friends. I always respected Roland's intelligence and his superior writing skills. I shall miss the friendly political disagreements Roland and I shared. Our loss is a loss to the world. Roland was truly a gift and a great man to call a friend. My condolences to his family.

I was so sad to see Roland's obituary today. I worked for Roland and became a part of his circle of friends and family when he was married to Rusanne. I spent many wonderful times with them . I enjoyed seeing him at his 80th birthday party. I had many wonderful conversations with him throughout the years. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I am so sad to read of Roland´s passing. He was such a big, fun part of my childhood. He taught me how to ski the "Roland" way... down a slope at Mt. Hood Meadows with moguls. He cheered me on and encouraged other skiers to do the same, at least that´s my recollection. Such a character. My heart is with his family. Anna Stahl

I am truly saddened to learn of Roland’’s passing as we shared a plethora of stories and experiences together. The experiences were usually on the hand ball court at the MAC and the stories over a beer in the locker room or hand ball galleries.

We spoke at length recently and caught up on these times and I can’t believe he is gone. Roland was a multifaceted man with a heart of gold . My condolences to his family, he will be missed.

Roland was an exceptional person of great knowledge and full of life. He had a wonderful personality and was our pleasure knowing him. I've included a photo of Roland myself and X-NBA player Dennis Awtrey, on the left in the photo. I'm 6'-9", Dennis is 6'-10" and Roland thought he might as well stand with the tall guys! Dennis and his wife have a great Bed & Breakfast in Manzanita, Or, we stayed there with our wives for a fun getaway several years ago. It's been some time that we saw Roland...

Roland, the void in our hearts is filled with memories... Your smile, the twinkle in your eye, a quip and always "Have I told you my story about ....?" Your self proclaimed "Eternal Optimist," insatiable curiosity and lightning intellect. Your compassion for the human struggle. Your support of individuals and groups who, like you, experienced a challenging path. Your constant affection, in shared life and experiences, warm hugs, caring questions, encouraging advice and laughter, always...
