Kristan Funeral Home - Mundelein Obituary

Rolland Bruce Turner, Jr. “Ron”

Rolland “Ron” Turner, 92, passed away August 13, 2025. He was born in Chicago on July 30, 1933 to Rolland “Bruce” Turner, Sr. and Josephine Gray Turner.

Ron grew up in Paxton, IL where his parents owned the Paxton Hotel. In high school, he was quite the football star receiver. One sportswriter called him, “Ramblin' Ronnie with the hula hula hips.” He caught the attention of Paxton High School's valedictorian Marilyn Kuntz, whom he married after joining the Navy during the Korean War. They were stationed in Pensacola, FL where they made life-long friends. They had 2 daughters, Holly and Jeanne and lived most of their lives in Mundelein, IL. He worked at Goodyear for 20 years.

Ron was the annual summer camping trip planner, where they traveled to California, Washington, D.C., and Florida to name a few. He was a passionate Chicago Bears fan and could grow a mean flower and vegetable garden. He also made use of his grapes by making wine, and he and Mari made bread and butter pickles. Ron and Mari were ardent supporters of their daughters' sports events and their college educations. In later years they also fostered those of their grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years Marilyn Turner, daughters Holly David (Jim) and Jeanne Phillips (the late Patrick) as well as grandchildren Tim Phillips (Jillian), Cassie Cleary (Thomas), Marc David (Chelsea) and great-grandchildren Ava, Rowan, Jack, and Dean.
