Ronald Alan Larson was born on November 25, 1950, to parents Kenneth and Bessie (Hunt) Larson and passed away on July 12, 2023. He was the youngest of 27 first cousins.
Ron grew up in Mallard, Iowa and graduated from Mallard High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa, graduating in 1971. He then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in History. He student taught at Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Nebraska.
After teaching, he worked at Sundstrand in Ames, Iowa where he became a traveling instructor on hydrostatic transmissions. An opportunity to purchase the tavern in Mallard came up and he took it, owning and operating “Ron’s Tap” for nearly 40 years.
In 2021, Ron shocked the world of politics and his family when he ran for Mayor and won! The only downside was we had to address him as “Your Honor”. Ron took to his new purpose in life with a great deal of pleasure.
Ron had a lifelong passion for cards, whether playing 500 and Whist with his dad and Uncle John or playing Euchre and Pinochle with friends and relatives. In fact, the story going around was that the town of Pocahontas was not going to let Ron and his playing partner, Kevin Schuller, play in any more Euchre tournaments because they never lost. He also ran the Calcutta at Spring Hills Country Club for many years.
Ron also enjoyed sports, especially “his” Boston Celtics and those damn Iowa Hawkeyes.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darlow Larson of Omaha, Nebraska; and sister-in-law, Becky Larson of Mallard.
He is survived by sister-in-law, Janice Larson of Omaha, Nebraska; brother, Lyle Larson of Mallard, Iowa and Gary (Linda) Larson of West Des Moines, Iowa; seven nieces and nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews; five great, great nieces and nephews; as well as numerous cousins.

Love you Uncle Ronnie. Give grandpa, grandma and dad love and don´t beat dad too bad in cards.

Our deepest sympathy to the Larson family. Ron was a classmate of mine in High School, and a cousin to Nancy. So sorry and God be with you all.

Ron was my high school classmate, and a cherished friend. I saw Ron quite a bit in the last two years on my trips up to Mallard from Des Moines. The last time, just 3 weeks ago. He could always make me laugh. I thought he was enjoying being Mr. Mayor. (or Your Honor) He was my brush with greatness. He will be missed by all.
