Ronald Maurer
Frankenmuth, MI
Ronald Steve Maurer of Frankenmuth died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
Ron was born on September 4, 1937, to the late Edward and Minnie (Puvalowski) Maurer. Ron attended Ubly High School where he met his first love and high school sweetheart, Patricia Osentoski. Ron and Pat were married on October 11, 1958. They were blessed with six children: Diane (Mark) Fargo, Kevin (Carol) Maurer, Brian (Penny) Maurer, Scott (Lisa) Maurer, Myron (Jodi) Maurer and Cindy (Andrew) Burg. Ron was a devoted family man who believed family came first. Ron and Pat celebrated 50 years together before he lost Pat to early-onset dementia on May 24, 2009. Ron and Pat were blessed with twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Despite mourning the loss of his first love, Ron was blessed to find love again when he met Marie Bartarian. Ron and Marie shared a lot in common, especially that of losing a spouse. Ron and Marie polka danced their way to the aisle and were married on May 7, 2011. Ron was also blessed with five stepchildren: Paul (Melanie) Liss, Connie (Kasey) Day, Kim (Dan) Spreeman, Amy Bartarian, and Brenda (Bill) Raymond, thirteen step-grandchildren, and sixteen step-great-grandchildren. Ron and Marie celebrated eleven wonderful years together.
Ron had a 25-year career as a chemical technician at Carling Brewery. He continued his career at Dow Chemical until he retired. He had many cherished friends from both workplaces. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed gardening, wood working, polka dancing, going to Florida each winter, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Ron was an early and active member of Blessed Trinity where he served as religious education teacher, building campaign worker, and minister to the homebound. Ron proudly served in the US Army Reserves.
Ron is survived by his wife of 11 years, Marie; sister, Jane (Richard) Messing and sister-in-law, Betty Maurer. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat; twin brother, Donald; brother, Wilfred; sisters, Joan and Jean; and stepson, Dean Bartarian.
Funeral arrangements have been made by Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth. The visitation and funeral will take place at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Ron was a special man—one of highest character, a great work ethic, and he had a kind heart. He loved his family unconditionally, including his “adopted children”. We will miss him.

Dear Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved family patriarch. I will remember Uncle Ronnie as a gentleman in the true sense of the word. As a new cousin in-law I recall Uncle Ronnie going out of his way to welcome me and make me feel at home. His good nature, ready smile and gracious manner are certainly reflected in his family and serve as an example to those of us who knew him. I am thankful for having had the opportunity to know Uncle Ronnie...

Brian, Although it's been a long time since we were together at Dow, I still remember how important your family was to you. I always saw in you the values that I am sure were influenced by your mother and father. I know how hard it is when we lose both parents, no matter how old we are.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Peace, Kathy McCreedy

Dear Maurer family,
My sincere sympathy on Ron's passing. We worked together at the brewery and in later years, I helped him organize the annual brewery breakfast that the credit union hosted for us. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by myself and many others. God's blessings to all of you.
