Williamston
Ronald Merrifield was born December 14, 1935 in Williamston, MI and passed away May 16, 2017 in Lansing, MI at age 81. Ron is preceded in death by his high school sweetheart of 55 years Mary "Susan" (Stephens) Merrifield (2011), infant son Stephen and brother Robert.
Most of his life was spent in the construction trades as a glazier working throughout Michigan. Ron enjoyed golf year round with family and friends, and he was a loyal Spartan fan. There was not one sporting event that he missed that involved his kids.
Prior to Susan's passing, Ron and Susan spent the last 15 years they had together wintering in the Auburndale, FL area enjoying their friends and the warmth of the southern sun. They also enjoyed spending time with the family at the summer lake cottage near Stanton, Michigan.
Ron is survived by children Pamela (Mark) Bartig, Linda (Carl) Phillips, Christopher (Elyse) Merrifield, grandchildren Stephen (Robyn) Bartig, Sarah (Andrew) Belanger, Stacy (Brandon Lamb) Green, Monica Green, Cody Phillips, and great-grandchildren Noah Bartig, Parker Bartig, Kathryn Bartig, Carter, Dylan and Harper Belanger, Ethan Lamb and William Lamb, sister Kay DuBois and significant other Barbara Henderson.
Funeral services were held Saturday May 20, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Williamston Track Improvement Committee attn.; Mitch Lutzke, 3939 Vanneter Rd, Williamston, MI 48895, or Mary Free Bed Rehab Sparrow Foundation, 1322 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Williamston Chapel.

It was a sad day for me when I learned of Ron's passing. Ron and Sue were a big part of my early days at Williamston High School. The Merrifields were a driving force in the effort to provide an all weather track for the community. I clearly remember the day that the Williamston Girls won the Class C state Championship. When Linda would hit the track he was the most nervous dad there. The Merrifields were always there to support their family. They were huge Williamston supporters as well as Michigan State.For many years they hosted the boys and girls cross country teams at their A frame cottage in Stanton. At night the kids would sleep on the floor and there was no room to walk. imagine 30 kids visiting your house for the weekend. Yet they did it. It was a great team builder and memory for the Hornets. I cherish their memory.

Our condolences to the Merrifeld Family from Jean & Bill Bailey. We were neighbors of Ron And Sue at The Hamptons in Auburndale, Fl. for 15 years. We had lots off fun times and great memories with them. God Bless!!!

Ron was a great guy who treated everyone very kind. He and Sue will always be remembered for all their donations, time and dedication given to their Williamston Track and Cross Country family. He will be sorely missed.
