It was a sad day for me when I learned of Ron's passing. Ron and Sue were a big part of my early days at Williamston High School. The Merrifields were a driving force in the effort to provide an all weather track for the community. I clearly remember the day that the Williamston Girls won the Class C state Championship. When Linda would hit the track he was the most nervous dad there. The Merrifields were always there to support their family. They were huge Williamston supporters as well as Michigan State. For many years they hosted the boys and girls cross country teams at their A frame cottage in Stanton. At night the kids would sleep on the floor and there was no room to walk. imagine 30 kids visiting your house for the weekend. Yet they did it. It was a great team builder and memory for the Hornets. I cherish their memory.
