Ronald Bender Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2011.
Ronald J. Bender, age 63, took his last breath on August 29, 2011, with his loving family at his side. Ron was born on June 5, 1948 to Timothy and Lois Bender in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ron grew up in Minneapolis where he was a police officer for many years. He received an award from the mayor of Minneapolis, for saving a baby while he was off duty. Ron married his soul mate Marilyn in 1990 and they moved to Honolulu, Hawaii for 10 years. He was a Deputy Sheriff before moving to Las Vegas where he worked security for the Sun Coast Hotel & Casino. Ron had several passions in his life such as golf; he even had a hole in one. He loved all kinds of movies and TV shows, and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. March Madness was always a special time of year for Marilyn and him. Ron traveled the world; of his travels one of his favorites was having a audience with the Pope. He was fortunate enough to have created a bucket list and complete it TWICE. Ron valued his family and friends above anything else. His strength and coverage during his battle with cancer inspired awe and respect in those whose lives were touched by him. Ron and Marilyn were filled with gratitude for all the gifts of love and support that were shown in many ways during his difficult journey. He was preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Lois Bender; siblings, Dennis and Jackie. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Marilyn; daughters Angeline, Elizabeth, and Natalie; step-son Brett; brother, Anthony; sisters Denise and Alice, and 7 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Friday September 2, 2011 at Palm Northwest Mortuary and Cemetery. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 3, 2011 at Palm Mortuary & Cemetery Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89131. 702-464-8460 The family is requesting no floral tributes. The family will be having a memorial service in Minneapolis at 2:00 pm on Saturday September 10, 2011 at Easter Lutheran Church, 4200 Pilot Knob Road, Eagan, MN 55122

How glad we were to have the great pleasure to be with Ron on his trips to Minnesota in the past few years. Uncle Harold and I were so pleased. It was so good to bring your Mom back to her little home town for burial, next to here brothers Dennis and Harold. God bless you Ron.

I met Ron just once, and I still remember the place and time. He had that kind of personality. He will forever be remembered as one of "Minneapolis's Finest."

The Bender Family,

Ronnie and I go back many, many years spending time together playing sports, street games and just hanging. Ronnie and I joined the MPD and went to rookie school together (I picked him up every morning). A hell of an athlete. I wish we would have connected in these later years.....we would have had a blast!! Ronnie is now in the hands of God, showing off that huge smile....Bless the Bender Family.

I grew up with Ronnie on the "infamous northside: of Minneapolis. He was just the best kid ever. I am so sorry to hear that he lost his battle here on earth. There was never a smile quite as bright and sincere. I am sorry for the loss to his family.

Marilyn,
I love you and will be there for you. I know the pain you feel, each day it will get better and not as tough to get up in the morning.
Love you soooo much
