Ronald O. Blais, 52, of Katheryn Way, North Attleboro, a Massachusetts State Police Officer, died on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of Dianne M. (Casale) Blais to whom he was married on June 18, 1977.

Born in Attleboro, MA on February 28, 1951, he was a son of the late Omer J. and Nettie Mae (Johnson) Blais. He was a 1969 graduate of Attleboro High School.

Mr. Blais received an Associates Degree in business management from the former Bryant & Stratton Junior College in 1971; a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the former Roger Williams College in 1973; a Bachelor of Science Degree in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts in 1975, attended and graduated from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Criminal Justice Police Academy in 1978 and earned a Masters of Science degree in criminal justice administration from Western New England College in 1998.

Since 1975, Mr. Blais had a career in law enforcement. He began as a police officer for the City of Attleboro from 1975 – 1979 and served as a police officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles from 1979 – 1992. In 1992, he joined the Massachusetts State Police major crime unit and since 1993 had been a Massachusetts State Police Officer with the Bristol County Detective Unit with the District Attorney’s Office in the Homicide Unit.

Mr. Blais was an instructor at the Massachusetts State Police Academy, the Municipal Police Academy and the Registry Police Academy and he had been an instructor at In Service Training at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

He also received training in interviewing and interrogation, search and seizure, homicide investigation, basic investigating, crime scene analysis, standardized field sobriety testing, homicide and rape profiling and collection and preservation of physical evidence.

In addition to his wife of 26 years, he leaves a daughter: Tiffany L. Blais of North Attleboro; a son: Ryan M. Blais of North Attleboro and a sister: Linda N. Pinault of Attleboro.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial with State Police Honors on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro, with the Rev. David Costa, pastor, officiating. Burial with State Police honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro.

Visitation with State Police Honors will be held on Sunday, August 10 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in the “Commonwealth Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, funeral home ¾ mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Ron, Bravo 162, was great investigator and a great teacher. He was intelligent and caring in a difficult profession. Ron made my job easier and we enjoyed a laugh while doing it. All who knew him were made better by it. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family, whom he spoke of often.
