Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Ronald Michael Gavlick, 67, of San Antonio, passed away September 11, 2023.

Born January 6, 1956, Ronnie, as he was known to his family, was the second of five children. He grew up on the southeast side of San Antonio in a neighborhood full of kids playing all sorts of games, including several seasons of CYO Football & little league at Southeast Boys Baseball. Ronnie attended Highlands High School, where he discovered his passion for bull riding upon joining the Rodeo Club. His gift of gab earned him the nickname, Reverend Ron or “Rev” as he was affectionately known by his friends. He spent many happy dance nights with friends at the Golden Stallion Western Dance Club in its heyday back in the 70’s. Ron became an avid League bowler at Goliad Lanes for years where he played with his Uncle Buddy Henry’s St Cecilia team.

Ronnie worked hard to provide for his family as an employee of City Public Service, NEISD, Industrial Battery & Powell Lumber.

Ronnie was a master storyteller, providing the color commentary at all family gatherings throughout the years. He was a beloved character, larger than life, who could weave a tale like no one else. All of his stories were based on the truth, but felt like a tall tale in the best way, filled with joy, laughter, and valuable life lessons. Ronnie had a remarkable gift for conversation and his ability to connect with others was extraordinary.

Ronnie loved fishing and time spent on the Gulf coast of Texas. He also enjoyed spending time with his son and his brothers at the family ranch, the Double G.

As a father, Ronnie’s love for his son, Cole, and daughter, Jaycee, knew no bounds. He took great pride in all of their accomplishments, relishing the opportunity to share news of their latest achievements with all who would listen. Cole and Jaycee knew they could always depend on their dad and his unconditional love for them. Ronnie was also a doting grandPAW to Drogo, Bear, and Fitz and never missed a chance to pup sit and spoil them. Ronnie was not only a loving father, but a caring brother to his four siblings. His presence in their lives brought comfort, laughter, and joy.

Ronnie is lovingly remembered by his family: his two children, Cole (Tori) Gavlick of San Antonio, and Jaycee Gavlick (Nathan Donahue) of New Braunfels; his siblings, Gary (Diane) Gavlick of Phoenix, Arizona, Robert (Lisa) Gavlick of Houston, Daniel (Roxanne) Gavlick of San Antonio, and Nancy Stehouwer of Traverse City, Michigan; his stepmother, Margaret Carr Gavlick of Fredericksburg, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Estelle “Teela” (Preusser) Gavlick.

The loss of Ronnie “Rev" Gavlick leaves a gaping hole in the hearts of his family and friends. His memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched. Although we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the incredible legacy of love and kindness that he leaves behind.

Not sure what to say?

I got to know Ronnie quite well when lived with us while I was pregnant with his nephew. I saw a side of him many haven't. He was kind and compassionate during a time when I was at my most vulnerable and I will never forget it; I wish he knew how much it meant to me. He was also hilariously honest and provided many moments of comic relief. His nephew, Dylan, grew to become very fond of Uncle Ronnie and was amused by his outspoken nature. I share in your sadness as you remember him and am...

It's been many, many years since we lived next door to the Gavlicks. Ronny was the 'cowboy' of the boys. He always had a smile on his face. I am fond of all my memories of the family. I am so sorry for your loss. I know the strength in your faith will see you through this loss.

He was a friend and allot of good times.
