Cox-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service Obituary

Ronald M. Hendrickson, 71, died Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Specialty Care Center in Urbandale.

Ronald M. Hendrickson was born December 24, 1950, the son of Leonard and Ida (Wilson) Hendrickson in Grinnell. He attended Grinnell High School and graduated in 1969. Ron met the love of his life in 8th grade. Ron asked Lynda Stout to marry him, and the couple wed on June 5, 1970, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Amy and Sue.

During his high school years, Ron played football and basketball. He was part of the FFA. Ron always cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed gardening and canning. He tried golfing with Lynda; that didn’t turn out well. He was always busy with something, either roasting a hog for weddings and parties, or hunting, fishing and trapping. Ron was a loyal man, a family man and would help-out whenever possible. He adored his daughters and cherished his granddaughters. One of the best memories with his granddaughters was seeing him sitting in the kiddy pool with water guns. His love for his family was never-ending.

Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynda, of Grinnell; daughters, Amy (Ross) McDonough of Boone and Sue Arrowood of Des Moines; four granddaughters, Jaden and Alex McDonough of Boone and Paige and Parker Arrowood of Des Moines; nephew, Jeff (Julee) Hendrickson of Grinnell; niece, Jackie (Mike) Kriegel of Grinnell; great niece, Katelyn Kriegel of Altoona; and several close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ida; and his brother, John Hendrickson.

Memorial for Hospice of the Midwest or to Glen Oaks Specialty Care Center and sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 163, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Not sure what to say?

My condolences to Ron's family and friends. I was a high school classmate. We played sports and were in FFA together. Always appreciated Ron and I know he will be greatly missed by loved ones.

Ron, was a fellow teammate of mine on the football team. Although I seemed to get the accolades after the season , Ron was a great player and probably deserved the awards that I got. He was always in a good mood and, even in the huddle, he had a sense of humor. He took the game seriously and was a blast to play with.
He will be missed.
Your friend, Mike Gallagher

Ron was one of a kind and a friend I will never forget. I grew up with Ron from the days at Newburg Elementary School to Grinnell High School. He was always so fun to be around. I have a lot of stories to share from those good old days but it was his happy go lucky personality that I enjoyed the most. He was a great loving husband with a beautiful wife and family. He will be truly missed and not forgotten.

Lynda - You and Ron were such loyal friends to Jack even through his worst times. I hope the two of them are reunited and in their healthiest state to reminisce and enjoy each other.

Lynda, Amy and Sue, you are in my thoughts and prayers. “Ron stories” were some of the favorite parts of my days when working at the college. Such wonderful loving memories you will have forever. Hugs.

I was a sophomore. Ron was a junior. At one football practice I was on defense...defensive back , I think when Ron caught a short pass in front of me and took it to the end zone. I remember that play often. Ron did everything fully and completely. Rest in Peace, Ron. Peace to all who's lives he touched.

Lynda and Family, Keeping each of you close in our thoughts. Cherish all your wonderful memories. Our Heartfelt Sympathy to each of you.~~~Ken and Miriam Saunders
