Not sure what to say?

My father Brad Bartel was colleagues with Ron at SDSU. Ron was always so nice to me and I have memories of him being so kind and nice (even at 3-5 years old) I remember he also had large fluffy white dogs he loved. Rest in Peace

I was lucky to meet Ron on a Tauck tour in Europe. Ron shared with me some of the most valuable lessons I will carry through life. I´m honored to be one of the people he graced with his kindness. I have always felt special that he chose to spend time with me on the tour and to offer mentor me through some life decisions. His keen eye for the nuances of human nature was unmatched. I´m sorry to read about his passing. My condolences to everyone he mentored, his friends, and his sweet travel...

I just learned about Ron's passing. I knew him as a brilliant high school student in Riverside, NJ, a great linguistic scholar at an early age. My condolences to his loved ones.

Dr. Himes was a lovely human being. I'm grateful to have known him and to have learned so much from him. When I think of my time as an Anthropology student, Dr. Himes' enthusiasm in sharing his knowledge of linguistics often comes to mind. He is not forgotten. My condolences to his family and friends.

Always enjoyed our exchanges re our beloved dogs, Ronald. Prayers

I met Ron in 1976 as a student in the SDSU Anthropology Department. Over the course of my undergraduate and graduate studies I transformed from a student of his to a friend. Ron was an exceptional teacher and human being. His love of linguistics was infectious, even for those of us who were just trying to get through the subject matter, as best we could. He was a kind and thoughtful friend and very funny. I have a powerful memory of his laugh. His legacy lives on in his former students and...

Ron Himes, aka Dr. Himes. In linguistics and graduate linguistics in 1988 and 1990, I had amazing memories with you. You were always there for your students. You were always kind, direct, sincere, and always gave of yourself. Your sense of humor had a bite to it (laughs), and you were a joy to be around and a great professor at SDSU. I will miss your stories of the Philippines. I haven't seen you since 1990, but I always remembered you fondly for the knowledge, wisdom, kindness, and...

I´m truly saddened to read of Ron´s death. As colleagues and many years as department chairs, we enjoyed a congenial friendship. Though I knew little more about him beyond his academics, I will remember with a smile his gently sardonic wit and ready graciousness. My condolences to those who were close to Ron and to others who had the pleasure of his teaching and friendship.
