Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

Ronald Macy, age 87, of Flint, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 8, 2025. Born January 27, 1938, in Eden, North Carolina, Ron was the beloved son of the late Ernest and Mildred (Dalton) Macy. He spent his early years in Eden before moving with his family to Flint at the age of 15, where he would make his home for the remainder of his life.

On October 24, 1959, Ron married the love of his life, Patricia Macy, and together they shared many years of love and devotion before her passing. He was a man of deep faith, and unwavering love for his family.

One of Ron’s greatest passions in life was music, especially gospel music. He shared his love of the Lord through song, singing for many years with his gospel group, Sons of Song. He also sang regularly at his church of over 60 years, Flint Baptist Temple. He took great joy in recording music that touched hearts and lifted spirits. His voice was a blessing to all who heard it. In addition to his love of music, Ron was a loyal Detroit Tigers fan.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mildred Macy, and his cherished wife, Patricia.

He is survived by his daughters, Pam (Duncan) Moore of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Susan (Jim) McFadden of Sugar Land, Texas; his bonus daughter, Sheryl (Billy) Selvia; his sister, Kay (Charles) Marchbanks; and his grandchildren, Amber (Nick) Dombrowski, Ashleigh Moore, Erica (Zach) Baxter, and Kendra McFadden. Ron was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Luke, Presley, Addison, and Aubrey. He leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him fondly.

Ron will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his positive outlook on life, sense of humor, and the joy he brought through music. He was a loving Dad, Papa and friend.

Visitation will be held at Swartz Funeral Home on Hill Road with Pastor Glenn Tatterson officiating on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, July 12, from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 12:00 noon.

Not sure what to say?

The Moore family has always been my second family. A place where you laugh until your belly hurts with people who's only intention is to be genuine. This could never have been possible without Ron. I remember spending nights at their house with Amber and Ashleigh. Some summers we would go to smokerise and camp. Memories ill cherish forever because of the Moore family. Losing someone close isn't easy, but silverlining is reliving those wonderful memories that were made possible by them. Ron...

Ron and Pat were great Christian people who were part of my childhood and early adult life. I went to the FBT as a kid and until I married and moved to west Michigan. They were part of my memories of Sunday school and nursery as Pat took care of my daughters and yes Ron’s singing! Pam, Duncan and Susan were part of my memories in youth group and all of our activities throughout those years. I send my condolences to all the family on the passing of Ron but know I will see him and Pat again...

Had a beautiful voice when he sang in church

So many memories I have of you growing up and hearing you sing with the Sons of Song. I always loved to hear you sing “Why me Lord”
You were one of the kindest souls I have ever known.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Such a great fella spent many mornings having breakfast with Ron at the Palace. Blessings and prayers to his family and friends. I’ll miss him dearly! RIP

I was blessed to have Ron in my life. We shared many fun memories from my journeys with The Sons of Song. He was always an inspiration to see and be with. God Bless the family.
