Ronald A. Venturi

AGE: 58 •

After a courageous, two year battle with brain cancer, Ronald A. Venturi died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at the age of 58. Born in 1955 to John & Eleanor Venturi, Ron grew up on the ball fields and in the gymnasiums of Irvington. A gifted athlete, Ron played multiple sports including varsity tennis and basketball at Irvington High School.

Blessed with a keen intellect and an appetite for argument, after obtaining his B.S. & M.B.A. from Seton Hall University, Ron went on to receive his law degree from Seton Hall in 1986. After graduation, Ron embarked on a successful career as a criminal trial attorney, garnering appointments as Municipal Public Defender and Prosecutor in Irvington and Hoboken. The pinnacle of his career came in 2002 with an appointment to the bench as a Municipal Court Judge in Irvington, where he served for five years.

Ron was brave in facing the disease that took him. After his initial diagnosis and treatment, which included surgery and a punishing regimen of post-operative therapies, Ron returned to the courtroom for more than a year, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues in the New Jersey State Bar Association, who named him Municipal Court Practitioner of the Year in 2013.

A fine lawyer, Ron was an even better friend. A lover of travel, fine food & wine, sports, and rock music, Ron will be remembered by his many friends for his wit, charm, generous fun-loving spirit, and ubiquitous savior-faire. The true loves of his life, though, were his wife, Tracy, and beloved son, John, who were a constant source of joy and pride, and by whom he will be deeply missed.

Ron is also survived by his brother, Jack Venturi, his adoring niece and nephew, Sharon and Justin Venturi, his loyal sister-in-law, Marsha Venturi, his Aunt Marlene, cousins, Marty Dafner, Camille Rankin, and Dr. John Cozzone, as well as a multitude of family & friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the John Griffith Venturi College Fund, c/o Central Jersey Bank, 2201 Bridge Ave., Pt. Pleasant, NJ 08742.

Not sure what to say?

I was a probation officer in Municipal Court and worked with Ron. I enjoyed talking sports with Ron, especially basketball. Any time an individual was placed on probation, Ron would say to the probationer," go see the white dude with the bow tie." - a statement that my kids remember to this day. Many fond memories of Ron. A very interesting guy.

RIP RONALD A VENTURI Although our paths crossed at different times in Irvington, its quite obvious that you leave a legacy behind that only could be understood by those whose lives you touched, mine included..RIP OPEN THE GATES heaven awaits:) you will be missed.

I knew Ron when we were kids in Irvington. He was a charmer then and continued to be so even years later. He was the nicest ,smartest guy you would ever want to know. Ron and I had twin black BMW's except mine was a stick and he always would joke that I was the girl and he didn't have a clue how to drive it . He will be greatly missed as a lawyer and a friend. RIP Ron .

My depest sympathy to Tracy and John. I knew Ron on a personal level, his sense of humor and his ability to be direct were always two of his most precious characteristics. His memory will rmain with us always.

Sincere condolences from the surviving members of the family of Irvington Mayor Robert H. Miller: Marion Miller and Gary Richard Miller, Esq.

My sincere condolences. I knew Ron professionally as a defense lawyer and a Judge. It was always a pleasure to see him - sharp intellect and wit. Our conversations always turned to our families - he was very proud of his son. My deepest sympathies.

As a good friend from the Irvington High School days Ron was always a great guy and fun to be around. It is a shame to have to reconnect with some old friends under these circumstances but we all remember the great times we all had together and Ron will always be in our hearts and thoughts. My deepest condolences to his family.

I probably had most of my contact with Ron during my career with Irvington PD and had funny moments when he was the prosecutor and I was the arresting officer. The defense wanted to know if they were being ganged up on by Venturi's. I think the proudest I ever saw Ron was when he had his son and carried on a traditional family name of John. John you will be one of only two boys in a large family to carry on the Venturi name, always treat it with respect. Having retired and moved to Florida...

Ron will be missed ,but he will remain in our hearts and memory .Please accept my condolences.
