ROSANNA RHO Obituary

ROSANNA RHO It is with great sadness that the family of Rosanna Dainelli Rho, a.k.a. Dainelli Rosanna Rho, announces her passing from this life April 24, 2016. Rosanna was born in Milano, Italy, where she was educated, getting her teaching degree. She was married to Giovanni Rho and had a son, Maurice. They left Milano in 1962 for California for business purposes. Rosanna was an amazing lady, energetic, determined and independent. She attended San Jose State University, where she got her credential to teach Italian in the state of California. Through the San Francisco Italian-American Newspaper, they propositioned her to have a daily radio program for the American-Italian listener. Although she never had the experience as a broadcaster, she went to the San Francisco International Radio Station, where she was interviewed and she passed all the test required. She was the producer and announcer of two daily programs six days a week. She also was the correspondent for the Santa Clara Valley newspaper. After the tragic death of her teenage son, Maurice, she left her successful radio program and was missed by many. A few years later, she got a position of a language teacher in the state of California at the Berlitz School of Language, a position she held for seven years. Rosanna was also involved with her husband, Giovanni Rho business. He was the president of the Bess Test Lab in Santa Clara Silicone Valley and she was the treasury secretary of the company, where she stayed until the premature death of her husband. She moved to San Francisco, where she made her home and got involved with volunteer work at the San Francis Hospital, Nazareth House and St. Vincent de Paul. She was also a member of the Common Wealth Club. For 16 years, she was commuting from her home in San Francisco to her home in Bal Harbor, Fla. Every summer, she was traveling to Italy to visit relatives and friends. Her last trip to Italy was in 2009 for the occasion of the beatification of Don Carlo Gnocci in her native Milano, with whom she worked in her younger years as a teacher in his Foundation for Handicap Children. Rosanna very much treasured a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Baby Jesus that was given by Don Carlo to her for the occasion of her wedding. That image was sent back in November 2015 to the Museum of the Basilica of Don Carlo in Milano, Italy. Rosanna asked us to be glad in the living and not to weep. She will always be a gentle reminder to keep doing the things we love, with the people that we love and never take a moment for granted. She will be sadly missed by her friends and relatives here and in Italy. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Burial will be at noon Thursday, May 10, at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St., Santa Clara, Calif. Mrs. Rho came into my Mother's (Dorothy Leahy) life as her Italian teacher in Santa Clara, Ca. Mrs. Rho said my French Mother had a beautiful accent. They became fast friends and continued in their friendship until my Mother went to Heaven in 2009. I spoke with Mrs. Rho several times over the years as I also had the privilege of knowing her with Mom in Santa Clara. I knew her as a fashionable, classy, intelligent, extremely interesting woman who had a captivating command of the English language. One could listen to her talk about anything and remain in awe. My Mother and Mrs. Rho loved each other and I feel so happy to have had moments with them together. As I write, I see her beautiful face and hear her wonderful voice and am enjoying her musical articulation. I believe they are once again enjoying each others company for Eternity. Sincerely, Maureen Leahy Clarke
