ROSAURA "MARKY" MARQUEZ BERNAL, 61, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Wednesday, December 26, 2007. Marky was born November 3, 1946 in La Mesa to Rudolfo and Luz Marquez Bernal, and grew up on their farm in Deming. She moved to Las Cruces to attend beauty college and was a popular local cosmetologist for 30 years. While raising two children and working, Marky completed her Bachelor's Degree at New Mexico State University with a Major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Foreign Languages (Spanish and Portuguese). This accomplishment was a huge source of pride for her and those who loved her. Upon completion of her degree, she was employed as a Classification Case Manager, first at the Springer Correctional Facility for Juveniles in Springer, New Mexico and later at the Wackenhut Correctional Men's Facility in Brownsville, Texas.
When her health began to fail, she sought medical understanding and solutions. She returned to Las Cruces and spent the remaining years of her life enjoying her children, grandchildren, and friends.

Marky will be remembered for her deep infectious laugh, her passion and compassion, a robust love of life, and her healing hands. Her amazing wit, wisdom, humor and philosophy were often embodied in a myriad of dichos. "Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres." (Tell me who you surround yourself with and I'll tell you who you are.)
The numerous friendships that Marky shared had a striking impact on people of all ages and from all walks of life. She has left her "mark" which no one can forget.
Marky is survived by her daughter, Angelica Cervantes and grandchildren, Andrew Malachi and Josiah Ray; her son, Anthony Michael Aranda all of Las Cruces; her brothers and sisters, Rudolfo Bernal, Matilda Molina, Beatrice Lawson and her husband Steve, Robert Martin Bernal and wife Debra, Daniel Bernal and wife Diana, Ricardo Bernal, and Leonel Bernal. Other survivors include three nieces, Alicia, Stephanie, and Cyra, as well as numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved father and mother.

Visitation for Marky will begin at 6 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2008 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Liturgy at 10 AM Thursday, January 3, 2008 in San Albino Catholic Church in Mesilla, with the Reverend Narciso Rivera, Celebrant. At her request cremation will follow.
Serving as casket bearers will be Richard Ferrales, Anthony Lujan, Leo Perez, Daniel Bernal, Basilio Rivera and Henry Aranda. Andrew Malachi and Josiah Ray will be honorary casket bearers.

The Bernal Family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels to direct funeral services. 527-2222.

Not sure what to say?

I too was Marky's cousin and had not seen her in many years...to her spouse and immediate family and grandchildren...my condolences.
She was a wonderful lady and cousin during the time that I knew her. She was a latina with a lot of spunk and had a smile that put the sun to blush. Her laughter was contagious and it was always given with her all; if the conversation was funny...and if not; somehow she managed to get you to laugh or smile before she let you leave. To her sisters Matilde...

Marky was my best friend and I shall miss her emensely. She was a warm hearted person who enjoyed life. Even in the darkest hour, Marky kept the faith. She was friend to everyone as well as an inspiration. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Angelica & boys; and Tomik:
I am truly sorry for your loss. Actually, it is the loss of everyone whose lives were touched by Marky. She was my mom’s friend for many years and knew me since I was born. It was not until my adulthood that I realized that I was fortunate enough to have Marky in my life as well. I knew I could call her whenever I needed and she would know exactly what to say, even though it may not have been what I wanted to hear, but it was the truth and definitely, what I...

Angelica, Anthony and all the Bernal cousins and Family:

We are so sorry for your loss but we know now that Rosaura is at peace and looking over all of us with the rest of the family! She is at home at last! Each one of us has so many different memories about her we wouldnt know where to start. I know im going to miss her spirit so much cause she carried so much of the Marquez blood in her. And the women who come from the Marquez side carry this power inside of them that no one can...

To Marky's Family,

I am one of your cousins and I had not seen Marky in many years. Our deepest sympathy to the entire family. She was a wonderful lady. She rented an apartment from my parents when she was attending cosmetology school. We had many good times and she will be missed.

She was a very special lady.

Angelica & Anthony,

I will forever miss Rosaura,as you know, I loved her very much. I spoke to her on Chistmas Eve. We had a wonderful conversation and spoke of many things. I wish I had known it was to be our last... Please know I will cherish my memories of her with me always. God bless you. Love Grace.

What I will always remember the most is how Markie could make me laugh when I was down and likewise, when she was down I would always make her laugh. No one could make me laugh like she did. I will miss her terribly, but in my heart I am glad she is not suffering anymore. I know she will still be there to make me laugh when I am down. I will also remember how much she loved her grandsons. She loved them more than life. Her grandsons are what kept her happy and kept her going with this...

ANGELICA & ANTHONY,
I LOVED YOUR MOM SO MUCH AND I AM GOING TO MISS HER SO MUCH. SHE WAS LIKE MY 2ND MOM AND I WILL FOREVER TREASURE ALL THE GOOD TIMES I HAD WITH HER. SHE WAS AN INSPIRATION IN MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF MY KIDS WHO WILL ALSO MISS HER DEEPLY. I REMEMBER HER GIVING ME ADVISE AND TELLING TO ALWAYS FOLLOW MY HEART. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HER LAUGHTER AND HER BLUNT COMMENTS AND HER LOVE OF LIFE BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY THE LOVE SHE HAD FOR HER KIDS AND GRANDKIDS. HEAVEN HAS TRUELY...

A great friend to my mom, Marky will always be missed. Always telling me how it is and giving me advise I will forever remember her. We are all lucky to have her as an angel watching over us.
