Rose Frey
Lakewood - Rose Frey (nee Rosalia Colombrito) known as Rosie, Ro, Aunt Ro-Ro, or Grams left us on September 24, 2018 at the age of 101. Born on July 20,1917, Rose grew up in West Virginia and Newark, before marrying her dear husband John (or Chip as he was known by family) in 1940 at St. Rocco's Church in Newark. They then raised their family in West Orange. They spent their later years in Brick, NJ where Chippy passed away in 1986. Rose passed away in Lakewood while living several years at Leisure Park where she was so well cared for.
She was predeceased by her parents, the Colombritos, Antonio and Grace (Scardilli), her siblings, lda LoRusso, Phylis Molino, Sam Colombrito, Phil Colombrito, and Janet Galietti.
Rosie and Chip had 2 children, Joan (Don DiBello), Farmingdale, NJ and John (Maria), Woodcliff Lake, NJ. Grandchildren include Caren Brand and her husband Joe, Donald DiBello Jr. and his wife Beth, and Lauren Frey and her fiancé Adam Waugh. Great grandchildren are Tyler, Kayla and Connor Brand, and Nicole and Gabrielle DiBello. Eight nieces and nephews also survive her including Ron, Sandy, Gene, Judy, Anthony, Grace, Alan and Gary.
Growing up, Rose's extended family all lived in "the neighborhood" in Newark and East Orange and eventually included 42 cousins and many Aunts and Uncles, so family was always a major part of Rose's life. She was the baker and cook in the family and would host memorable Christmas parties featuring her Sicilian specialties. She worked for several years in the book printing business at Economy Bindery in Orange and Kearny, carpooling with friends from work. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and was probably the best mother, grandmother, and aunt there ever was.
Donations should be made in her name to Residence Council Fund of Leisure Park, 1400 Route 70, Lakewood, NJ or a charity of your choice.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a viewing on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 3PM to 8PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10AM at Epiphany Church in Brick. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Sea Girt, NJ where she will go to her final rest with her beloved Chip. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.colonialfuneralgroup.com
