Roselyn Miller Powell GREENSBORO - Roselyn Miller Powell, 92, passed away on Wednesday December 4, 2013 at her home at the Cypress Club of Charlotte. A graveside service will be held at Green Hill Cemetery in Greensboro on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends on Saturday at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home North Elm Chapel from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. The family will also receive friends at a reception on Thursday, December 12 at the Cypress Club of Charlotte from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. Mrs. Powell, a native of Greensboro, was born July 27, 1921 in Spring Hope NC, daughter of the late Lily Griffin Miller and Guion Whitford Miller. She attended Hugh Morrison High School in Raleigh where she first met her husband. She was a 1946 graduate of Peace College and was married for 48 years to Charles Gregory Powell Jr., who retired as general counsel for Jefferson Pilot Corporation in Greensboro. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. She was a homemaker and an accomplished artist and worked in pastels and watercolor. Roselyn had been accepted as an exhibiting member of the Guild of Charlotte Artists. As an accomplished golfer she competed in many Carolinas Golf Association tournaments as well as winning the ladies club championship at Greensboro Country Club. Her love for the game and competitive spirit were passed on to her children. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie and two brothers, Meredith and Donald Miller. She is survived by her two children, Gregory Whitford Powell and wife Judy of Charlotte and Roselyn Griffin Powell of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Charles Gregory Powell, III and Gregory Whitford Powell Jr. and great-grandson Stratton Whitford Powell. Roselyn moved in 2003 to the Cypress; the good friends and extraordinary staff made her years there fulfilling and fun.
