I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SPEND A YEAR OF MY LIFE IN KALAMAZOO. BEING 10 YEARS OLD AND AWAY FROM MY DAD AUNT ROSIE AND UNCLE JACK TREATED ME AS IF I WAS ONE OF THERE CHILDREN. i remember a family reunion, held on a farm somewhere in southwestern michigan, back in 1964(?). there were hundreds of relatives, or so it seemed to this once wee child. what i remember most about that day was that we were all durrens, in spirit, not just by blood. as someone who has mostly resided on the fringes of the clan, the sense of belonging i felt that day was priceless, and i carry it with me still. i have no doubt that this marvelous woman was there -- all durren women are...

I love you Aunt Rosiemudder. I will miss you. I cherish the love you shared with me.

Dear Jack and family,
Paul and I were saddened to learn of Rosie's passing. I remember her for her concern for everyone and her wonderful smile and joyful nature. What a great person to spend your life with and for 61 years--what a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed but her memories will be held by all who knew her.
