Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors - Denton Obituary

Roxana Bejarano Hughes passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 in Denton. She was born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Dario Bejarano-Vargas and Ena Balcazar-Arias on February 14, 1964. Roxana married Lee Hughes on November 4,1995. She is preceded in death by both her parents.

Roxana lived her life to the fullest. She loved traveling, dancing, and socializing with friends and family. She was happiest when on a beach and was always planning for the next big trip to some destination where she had never been. On every trip Roxana took, she made new friends.

She grew up in Bolivia where she kept in close contact with her classmates and family who she tried to visit as often as she could. Roxana spent a year in Missouri as an exchange student where she found a second family with the late Ed and Gloria Brooks. Her path took her next to Natal, Brazil where she earned her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and then to Buenos Aires, Argentina where she trained as a medical microbiologist. After working in Bolivia for several years, she came to Texas to attend the University of North Texas and earn her master’s degree in biology. She met her husband Lee while at UNT. Roxana also later attended Tarleton State University to become certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology. She has been a Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor at UNT since 2002, where she impacted countless students and was loved by her graduate student teaching assistants. Of all the things she accomplished and did in life, her greatest joys and loves were her two sons.

Roxana is survived by her husband and sons Drake and Diego of Denton; sister Gina Perkins and husband Dan of Highland Village; brother Ruben Bejarano-Balcazar and wife Rosario of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, brother Fernando Bejarano-Balcazar of Santa Cruz, Bolivia; sister-in-law Kristi Petty and husband Larry of Amarillo; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A Celebration of Life for Roxana will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Pilot Knoll Park near Highland Village, TX. Please contact [email protected] for information and directions.

Our broken heart goes out to the Hughes Family. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Roxanita. She will be missed and remembered forever.

A beautiful woman, a brilliant mind, a glowing smile, a dear friend, a gentle soul. . How you will be missed! Love always. Kendra

What can I say? Roxana was one of a kind. She loved to live life - and she took every opportunity to do just that! Some of us (speaking for myself) could learn from her example.
I am going to miss her smile, her laughter, the food deliveries after meetings, her pictures and tales of travel to parts unknown. And was Roxana ever a bargain hunter? I recently came across an email from a vendor who tried to explain that the discount from x-number of years ago was no longer valid. It...

I miss Aunt Rosie dearly - she was always such a bright light in this world. As long as I can remember from me being a kid growing up, she always had such a positive attitude and lived life to the fullest. I am so glad that I got to see her the weekend before her passing, and have a great memory of her to have forever. She will live in our hearts forever, and will be forever missed. I love you Tia.
