Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. - Slidell Obituary

Roxanne Ruth Hoover Keys died May 20, 2021 at the age of 89 at home in Slidell, LA, with family by her side.  At her request, no services will be held.

Roxanne is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Talbert "Tom" Keys Jr.  She is also preceded by her father Lowell C. Hoover, mother Bernice Anderson Fuqua, brother Kenneth Hoover, sister Edith Campbell.  Roxanne is survived by children Mike (Kathy), Kelly (Cheryl) and Patsy (Wayne Bell); 9 grandchildren Lee, Candice, Jimmy, Stephanie, Amanda, Kim, Alex, Robert and TJ and 16 great grand children Luke, Kaylee, Dante, Jessica, Leah, Angel, Liam, Keercie, Kaysen , Mila, Kayla, Jaiden, Lily, Omi, Ellie and Arya.

Roxanne was proud to have served in the US Navy where she ran the base beauty shop.  When her military service ended, she continued her beautician/hair stylist career well into her 70s.  Roxanne also loved her music; there wasn't an instrument she couldn't pick up and play.  In her early years, she sang live on the radio in Chicago and throughout her life usually had a country western band in which she was the lead singer and rhythm guitar.  Roxanne enjoyed other hobbies such as camping, painting, sewing, creating wooden craft items, and ceramics.  She also spent a lot of time teaching her grandkids the fine art of playing games and scrabble.  She was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

Not sure what to say?

On behalf of Louisiana Women Veterans, we would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of Roxanne Ruth Hoover Keys, U.S. Navy veteran. We salute her service to our country and honor her with this poem:

She is a woman veteran
Whose service was true
And she proudly served
The Red, White and Blue

She gave a part of her life
So others could be free
And without any hesitation
She joined unselfishly

She did her job...
