Roy Grantham
Roy Laddell Grantham, 80, of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo, MS.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 16, 2016, from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 2:00PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Dr. Bill Hurt officiating. Mr. Grantham will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Grantham was born June 5, 1936, in Carroll County, MS to the late Henry D. and Mattie Magdalene Daves Grantham. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, MS where he was an active member, deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Grantham loved playing the guitar in church for many years and played for the New Revivers for a number of years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as a crew chief for the B52 bomber and a Technical Sergeant. Mr. Grantham enjoyed working in his yard. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Grantham is survived by his wife – Nellie “Nell” Minor Grantham, Columbus, MS; daughters – Sandra (Kevin) Flatt, Spokane, WA, Kathy (Eddie) Grantham-Pitts, Tupelo, MS, and Susan (Dale) Parker, Baldwyn, MS; grandchildren – Taylor Robertson, Jason (Jennifer) Eaves, and Kendall Eaves; and sisters – Mary Mims, Columbus, MS and Mattie “Reecy” (Wayne) White, Kosciusko, MS.
Pallbearers will be Larry Mims, Kevin Flatt, Dale Parker, Doug Robertson, Ricky Eaves, and Eddie Pitts. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Eaves, Herbert Junkin, Harold Fleming, Rev. Grant Mitchell, Randy Tolleson’s Sunday School Class, Freddie Minor, Jimmy Minor and Don Pennington.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1383 Pleasant Hill Road, Columbus, MS 39702.
