The simplicity of the obituary belies the depth and resonance of his life. Mr. Mangano joined the Marines in 1941. In the pacific theatre, we made it through Iwo Jima, Tarawa and then Okinawa. In 1945, Mr. Mangano returned home to Chicago and working at the Chicago Tribune. After being caught by her smile, he married Mae Rose Goodman; in October, they would have been married 59 years. Mr. Mangano also was a North Riverside police officer, where they made their home and raised their 4 boys...
