Not sure what to say?

He was my English teacher at Sligo in the late 90s. Wonderful guy. I have vivid memories to this day of him reading his stories to the class. He inspired me to write and he would often read the stories I shared with him. I only have a very small handful of teachers I admire, and Mr. Patmalnee is one of them.

Mr. Patmalnee changed my life for the better in many ways. I had him for English in 11th and 12th grade at Wheaton HS. It was the only class I looked forward to each day. More important to me than his grammar and writing lessons were the stories he told us on a regular basis. He instilled in me a lifelong love of travel with stories of falling in love in a gypsy camp in Bavaria, a moose attacking the VW bug that he was riding in, and many more. He was an early role model for a confused...

I was lucky enough to have him as an English teacher at Sligo middle school. He would share bits of whatever story he was writing with the class. I never forgot him and what a wonderful person he was. He is still missed.

I was lucky to have Mr. Patmalnee for two years, my 10th and 11th at Wheaton High School. I've earned two graduate degrees since then and Roy was by far my greatest influence. I googled him today because I wanted to let him know how much his travel stories meant to me in my formative years. I was sorry to see that he had passed but hope my comments may mean something to his family.
I learned little grammer in Roy's class but was introduced to the larger world by his fascinating travel...

I had Mr. Patmalnee as an English teacher in the 11th grade at Wheaton High School in
Wheaton, MD back in 1972. He had a very interesting class, one that has stood out w/ his unusual progressive teaching style. Always remember his wiiide grin, smiling. Seemed to have loved what he was doing. J.Andrea (Abelmann)Kudel

Roy was a dear friend who loved to entertain us, his Sligo compatriots, with zany retelling of his 'heroic' adventures. I fondly remember the night we stayed up late while he patiently instructed me in the intricacies of March Madness, the final 4. I will miss his laughter, his keen mind, and the faithful warmth of his friendship.

Roy has been a good friend for 50 years, from our days at Curry College right up to the present. We argued about politics, and shared the love of a good book and a laugh over the silly side of life. He cared a lot for our family and children, and, though he never met them, even thought about the grandchildren. And whenever we needed him, he would be there. He will be missed.

How hard to say goodbye to our friend, teacher, writer, performer. We are revisiting many warm memories of teaching together, living our lives side by side for many wonderful years, and sharing "hover" dinners-Roy always threatened to make spaghetti. When Maureen, Annie, Frank and Roy performed their poetry readings it was as if they became the poems themselves. Sweetest memories. Love,
