Roy G. Ruffner, a member of the Berks County and the Pennsylvania bowling association's halls of fame, died November 19th at 4:19 P.M. in his residence at 441 Fourth Street, Wernersville.

Ruffner, 80, was the husband of Jane E. (Nagle) Ruffner.

He was inducted into the Berks hall in 1983 and was later inducted into the state hall.

Ruffner served as treasurer and director of the Reading association before becoming president in 1974.

He served in all four vice president positions of the state association before becoming president in 1988.

Ruffner was a past president of the senior league at Laurel Lanes, Laureldale, and worked with junior bowlers at Berks Lanes, Sinking Spring. He was also involved with the Berks County Young American Bowling Alliance program.

Ruffner was one of the original members of the Berks County Fireman's League.

Born in Cumru Township, he was a son of the late Charles B. and Luretta V. (Matz) Ruffner.

Ruffner was employed as a laborer by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, Pottstown, from 1952 until the plant's closing in 1980.

He was later employed in customer service by Berks Lanes, and as a courier by the Berks County Intermediate Unit and Lindgren Chrysler-Plymouth-Mazda Inc., Shillington.

Ruffner was a life member of the Reading Bowling Association, the Grill Fire Company and the Adamstown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

He was a former board member of Yocom's Cemetery Association, Grill.

He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington.

Ruffner was a 1940 graduate of Shillington High School.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a past president of the Second Armored Division Reunion Committee.

Ruffner is also survived by a son, Dennis A., Exeter Township, and a daughter, Linda D. (Ruffner) Hoffa, Bernville.

Other survivors include four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the Joseph D. Giles Funeral Home, Inc. & Crematorium, 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton with his pastor, Rev. Jill D. Snively, officiating.

Burial will be in Yocom's Cemetery.
