Roy G 'Junior' Slagle died after a number of recent years of afflictions and illnesses at the age of 88. He was born and raised in Nappanee to Roy G Slagle Sr. and Merlin Nancy 'Merle' Strauss. After high school he served in the US Army in the European theater in the capacity as a sniper. After returning home he met and married Ruby Hall on November 1st, 1947 and raised 2 boys and 2 girls East of Nappanee, where they lived in a home built by Roy and his family. He was an accomplished carpenter adding to the home as the family grew larger.
Roy worked for the Bendix Corporation in South Bend and retired in 1985 after 30 years.
Roy and Ruby were Caretakers and Custodians of the Turkey Creek Brethren Church and served as Youth Leaders there for many years.
Roy was a kid at heart, always finding time to take his children and grand-children hiking, cooking on an open fire, building a hut and camping out in the woods behind the family home.
Roy was preceded in death by a sister Marilyn (George Robert 'Bob') Nichols in 1944 at the age of 23, and a brother James 'Bud' Slagle in 2012 at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife Ruby Slagle, 2 sons Allen and Charlene Slagle and Roy Slagle 111 from Nappanee and 2 daughters Sonna (Rick) Shrock of Constantine Michigan and Sue (Dan) Miller of Sarasota Florida.
Also surviving is a brother Eugene and wife Norma Slagle of Wakarusa and Sandy (Leon) Ringenberg of Elkhart who is Marilyn daughter raised by Roy Sr. and Merle Slagle after Marilyn died at a young age.
He was loved and will be missed by his family and grand-children. Until we all meet again in Heaven Roy, God's Speed.
