Major Roy Winchester Smith Jr., USAF(Ret.) a twenty year decorated pilot of two foreign wars, Korea and Vietnam, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017, at his home. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maren Patricia McGinnis Smith, who died February 24, 2001. He leaves behind seven children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Marcus Smith of Charlotte, NC, Cathy Smith Kirkland of Goose Creek, SC, Christopher Smith of Vienna, Austria, Charles Smith and his wife, Patricia, of Jacksonville, Fl, Russell Smith and his wife, Cathie, of Charleston, Michael Smith of Atlanta, GA and Roy Douglas Kilburn and his wife, Linda, of Vermont.
Major Smith retired to Mt. Pleasant in 1971 and pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at The Citadel, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He enjoyed a career in real estate and property management. Major Smith was the manager at the Business and Technology Center on East Bay Street. In his later years his favorite pastime was cooking and he enjoyed watching his family consume his food with gusto at Sunday dinner and during the holidays. He will be sorely missed. His family will hold a private memorial service at a later date and request in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or the MUSC Foundation, Cardiac Unit.
