There´s an old saying that "Every time an old man dies, a library burns to the ground", meaning that many of our elders (of both sexes) are repositories of huge amounts of important history and the wisdom that can flow from that, and with their passing much of it is lost forever. If that is true, Sullivan´s Island just lost our own Library of Congress when Roy passed away. We are so much the richer for his life, his knowledge and his generosity in sharing both with us on the Island.,

Words cannot express how much the memories of Roy mean to me. I am especially grateful for his help with research about Sullivan's Island when our Battery Gadsden group visited the Charleston Library. And he was so appreciative when I gave him a copy of Archibald Rutledge's play "Lovelight" because we both wanted to remember his writings. I hope to meet him again in Heaven.

Our heartfelt condolences are sent to Roy´s family. We share your immeasurable loss. His dear friendship and company was a joy of shared pleasures and experiences. His unique boyish charm was a delight. Roy in all his brilliance will be sorely missed.

How very much Mr. Roy Williams will be missed by not only his family and friends but those who also knew him through their history connections. May choirs of angels sing him to his rest. May he stand in perpetual light always. Prayers for peace and comfort for his family. Sincerely, Bonnie Bridger Mittelmaier

What a wonerfully brilliant man Roy was - I am fortunate to have know him at Carolina and since. I'd wanted to et together with him and discuss history as we were both so interested in our Charleston background.but Cpovid came along. My love to his family especially Jerry whom I knew when I went swimming at Sullivans with my cousin Margie Gillreath and Margie's father lived near the Williams.
