Royce E. Dam

I met Royce at a fly fishing school with Gary Borger in the 80's. The first brown trout I ever caught was in Wisconsin with Royce. I visited him occasionally at his home. I believe that I have the first only video ever made with Royce tying a fly. The video is in VHS format but I am converting it to an mp4 format. If anyone would like a free copy of that video, please email me at [email protected]. Royce also made me a 7wt rod but I never had a chance to have him sign it. Rest in Peace Royce.

I just finished reading The Feather Thief and I remembered that in my husbands office he had a beautiful framed fly. My husband was a United Airlines pilot for 34 years and sometime during the time that he was Chief Pilot in Chicago someone gave him this framed fly with the feathers being in United's colors (at the time) and then below the fly was a United Logo. I looked on the back of the beautifully framed fly and there was a note that said
that the fly had been tied by Royce E. Dam...

I first met Royce at a Trout Unlimited meeting in 1988 or '89. He was a mentor to many fly fishers and fly tyers.

We were on vacation in Arizona when he passed away and we weren't aware of it until our return to Wisconsin.

Royce was a treasure trove of fishing information and a joy to talk to. He will be deeply missed by many, many people.

I truly enjoyed my recent visits with Uncle Royce. When I found out that he was there, my friend Bernie and I presented him with a red, white and blue colored Afghan with his name on it. He was near tears as he told us thank you. Rest in Peace and sympathy to the family.
