Ruben Callahan Jr. Ruben Callahan Jr. "Big" of Kents Store, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The son of the late Ruben Callahan Sr. and Maude (Pratt) Callahan, he was born on May 11, 1916, in Abbeville, South Carolina.
As a young child, he attended Athens Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and later in life, accepted the Lord as his Savior. He served in the United States Army from 1941 until 1945 and was a Veteran of World War II. He was employed as a Time Keeper for the United States Post Office for 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, the late Rebecca (Bates) Callahan of Kents Store, Virginia; sisters, Elizabeth Callahan and Harriet (Callahan) Carter; and brothers, Raymond Callahan and James A. Callahan, all of Cleveland, Ohio.
He leaves to mourn five loving children, Ruben "Major" Callahan III and his wife, Geneva, of Cleveland, Ohio, Lorenzo Robert "Mickey" Callahan of Bremo Bluff, Virginia, Andre Jerome Callahan of Kents Store, Virginia, Sharon Teresa (Callahan) George and her husband, Larry, of Goochland, Virginia, and Clarence Bradford Callahan and his wife, Judy, of Kents Store, Virginia; brothers, Robert Lee Callahan of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, Timothy Callahan of Bedford Heights, Ohio; sisters, Essie (Callahan) Roberson of Bedford, Ohio, and Tabitha (Callahan) Richmond of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Ann Hackler of Maple Heights, Ohio; 16 grand-children, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, at Thomasson Watson Funeral Chapel, 117 West Street, Louisa, VA 23093. Burial with military honors, will be at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, Virginia.
