Ruby S. Blackston - Easley, SC Ruby Smith Blackston, 86, of 110 Roper Street, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at the Brian Center in Brevard, NC. Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Joseph Andrew and Ellen Brooks Smith, Mrs. Blackston was formerly employed with T G & Y of Easley, and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Lester Dewitt Blackston of the home; two sons, Larry Blackston (Martha) of Anderson, and David Blackston (Pauline) of Pickens; three daughters, Elaine Edwards(George), Debbie Lyda (Gerald), both of Pickens, and Neomia Walker(Raymond) of Easley; two brothers, Charles Gilstrap and Don Gilstrap both of Easley; three sisters, Louise Trotter of Easley, Doris Looper of Pickens and Josie Black, of Easley; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnson A. Sheriff and several siblings. Pallbearers will be Brian Walker, Randy, Russell and Chad Blackston, Jeff Lyda, Scott Stancell, Preston Hudgens and Rob Marling. Honorary escort will be Ray and Martha Holcombe, Calvin and Gerri Chappell, Rev. and Mrs. John McGaha, Rev. and Mrs. Jim Stanley, Debbie Hulsey, Debra Russell, Edd Sheriff, Allen Clark, Dr. Richard Banks, Melidy Poole and the staff of the Brian Center - Brevard. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Thursday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home -Downtown with Revs. David Gallamore, Wilburn Snyder and Tim McCulley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family is at the home of a daughter, Neomia Walker, at 235 Turpin Dr. Easley. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Doris Ayers, Edith Finley, Lillian Sheriff, Lynn and Willie McCollum and Jo Ann Edwards.
