PEORIA -- Ruby M. Bodtke, 91, of Peoria, formerly of Dunlap, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020, at her home in Peoria.
She was born April 26, 1929, in Pekin, IL to Frederick "Boots" and Mattie (Mathias) Hill. She married James E. Bodtke Jr. on February 14, 1953, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her father and stepmother, Boots and Hilda Hill, mother and stepfather, Mattie and Harold Nelson, one son, James E. Bodtke III and a great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Sasse.
Surviving are her two children, Mary "Lori" (Doug) Schertz of Metamora and Jerry Edward (Janice) Bodtke of Chillicothe, daughter-in-law, Sandy Bodtke of Chillicothe, 8 grandchildren, Beth Sasse, Barbie Otto, Daniel Schertz, Sarah Schertz, Lindsay Bodtke, Jerod Bodtke, Michael Bodtke and Jaimee Bodtke, and 11 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Ruby grew up in Pekin and graduated from Pekin High School in 1947, a semester a head of her class. After graduation she moved to Peoria and graduated from Brown's Business College and Illinois Central College. She worked as a Secretary and Bookkeeper at several area small business, working last for her son at Bodtke and Stewart CPA's. Ruby volunteered her time at the old St. Clement Catholic Church, was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society, and also volunteered with Methodist Hospital and at Sophia's Kitchen. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Peoria, where she continued her volunteer work.
The family would like to thank Independence Village, Care Solutions, and Comfort Plus Hospice for their compassionate care.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Jude Catholic Church in Peoria. Burial will follow the service at St. Clement Catholic Cemetery in Dunlap. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
