Ruby E. Gillis, 95, of The Wentworth Home and formerly of Gage Street passed away September 19th at Wentworth Douglass Hospital after a period of failing health.
She was born in Dover, NH on December 23, 1913, the daughter of the late James S. and Gladys L. (Abbott) Forbes.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will always be remembered as a very caring person by all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends who knew her. She loved playing cards, bingo and was an avid reader.
She married Robert N. Gillis on November 25, 1937 who passed away on March 11, 2001. They resided in Dover until 1962 when the family moved into a new home in Newington, NH. In 1970 she moved to Concord, NH with her husband where he had accepted a position working for the City. In 1981 they moved back to Dover to enjoy their remaining years.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son Robert N. Gillis Jr. who passed away December 23, 1999, two brothers, Harold J. Forbes and George S. Forbes, a half brother Carl M. Forbes, three sisters, Dorothy M. Cochrane, Ethel L. Forbes and Barbara G. Perkins, and a half sister Arlene L. Foster.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Ann and Edward Therrien of Rochester, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Walda Gillis of Rochester, NH; a son William Gillis and close friend Sharon Lehman of Barrington, NH; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor Gillis of Rochester, NH, former daughter-in-law Carol Carr of Monroe, ME, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call Friday September 25th from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to The Wentworth Home, 795 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.
