Mrs. Higginbotham was a loving mother and gifted educator, inspiring many generations of children including her own to excel beyond their dreams. She was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where she graduated from McDonogh #35 High School and subsequently received a B.A. in Education from Xavier University of New Orleans. She completed her teaching career at Blessed Sacrament School in uptown New Orleans. In addition to her students, she also inspired her family as a devoted wife and mother of three daughters. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the TNT Bridge Club for over 50 years. Mrs. Higginbotham was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Luther Higginbotham of New Orleans, LA, formerly a Tuskegee Airman in World War II. Both were celebrated teachers in their careers. Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are daughters, Dr. Edith Higginbotham of Henderson, Nevada, Cecelia Higginbotham of Leesville, LA, Dr. Eve Higginbotham-Williams and husband Dr. Frank Williams of McDonough, GA and Philadelphia, PA; cousin, Abner J. Claude, Jr. of Erwinville, LA; granddaughter, Dr. Lenora Ann Higginbotham of Baltimore, MD; and numerous friends and extended family. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, August 5, at noon until 1 PM followed by Mass at ST. STEPHEN'S CHURCH in New Orleans. Interment will be at 3 PM at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum on Wednesday, August 6. I was not privileged to know Ruby in life-but have had the honor to know Eve-her daughter. Ruby's legacy is the gift to all of us who journey with Eve-a person of compassion-love-caring-and ethical contributions to her colleagues friends-and broader communities. Ruby lives in Eve- and so ,on this the 6th anniversary of Ruby's death-I thank God for her life-and the privilege to walk beside her daughter-Eve.

Mrs.Higginbotham will be missed, she had her students best of intrest at heart. She was a very wise teacher. I still remember her favorite sayings, empty wagons make the most noise, nobody owe you nothing and if you can't say something good than don't say nothing. Calvin Lee Terrytown,La

Mrs Higginbotham was my math teacher at McDonogh #6 School. She was a hard taskmaster who taught us that the world would not accept our excuses. We had a job to do and that was to learn as much as possible. We were to be leaders in our communities, our families and the world. I did not always appreciate her teachings but maturity changes our point of view. I have remembered her lessons taught over 60 years ago and passed her message to students I have taught.
My sister Marjory Elaine was a good friend of her daughter, Edith. If there is a classroom in heaven, she is the one with the larger desk. I appreciate her as a role model and a teacher. May she rest in peace. Sincerely, Myrna Lynne Weems DeBose, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I will treasure the summers when you came to New York and stayed with us.Two more caring people I have never know. I am happy in later years my children were able to know Aunt Ruby & Uncle Luther. Their memories will live on.

Eve,
We are saddened to hear of your mother's passing. You, Edith and Cecilia are in our thoughts and prayers. Please know that our entire family takes great pride in your accomplishments, which we know are attributable in such great measure to your extraordinary mom and dad. Our mother's relationship with your dad was always very special to her. Our family is quickly getting smaller in number, so let's try to keep in touch.
