Ruby Jean Hill
February 7, 1927 – July 27, 2019
Ruby Jean Hill went to be with her Lord Saturday July 27, 2019 peacefully, at her home in Toler, KY and was surrounded by her loving family.
Ruby Jean was born in Rockhouse, KY on February 7, 1927 to Affel and Thelma (Reed) Bevins. She was raised in the Pond Creek area, later graduated from Belfry High School & Pikeville College, becoming an elementary school teacher educating children for over three decades. She was a very active retiree. She was a proud member of the Kentucky Homemakers Association, the Red Hat Society and a sister of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. Her most cherished membership was to the congregation of the Belfry United Methodist Church where she remained active for more than 40 years.
Ruby Jean was preceded in death by her parents Affel and Thelma Bevins, two brothers – Affel, Jr. Bevins and Ed Bevins, her sisters-in-law Alice (Ed) Bevins and Elsie (Larry) Bevins, as well as her daughter-in-law Becky Elkins. Also preceding her in death, three husbands Quinton Elkins, Paul Smith and Kermit Hill.
She is survived by her only child, Kirby Elkins, who is the son of Ruby Jean and Quinton Elkins, her brother Larry Bevins, sister-in-law Gloria (Junior) Bevins and four grandchildren: Chris (Lauren) Elkins, Jeanna (Josh) Hatfield, Whitney Elkins and Evan Elkins. Ruby Jean is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Jordan, Kylie, Elliot & Finn Elkins and Quentin, Ryan & JJ Hatfield. She is also survived by her step-children and step-grandchildren/great-grandchildren:
Norman Kerry Hill – Monica (Jim) Moore – Paige Acord, Jonathan Acord, Rachel (Aaron) Toothman – Logan, Anna and Ellie and David (Leah) Hill. Tim (Rita) Hill, Rabon (Doris) Hill, Tony (Erica) Hill – Ethan, Matthew, McKinlea and Eli, Ryan (Jacqui) Hill – Issac, Nathan, Caleb and Callie.
She also leaves behind a host of special friends including, Sue Williamson, Joetta Maynard, Alice “Dale” Dotson, Marie Estep, Anna Lou Trout and many, many more.
Memorial services will be held at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, KY.
Visitation Service will be held on Tues. July 30, 2019, 6pm-9pm in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel and her funeral service Wed. July 31, 2019, at 1pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Mounain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, KY. Online condolences at www.refogersfh.com. R. The sweetest teacher ever. Taught me at Sharondale grade school when I lived with my grandfather, Tom Varney. Always a special memory for me and my sister.

To one of the best teachers, I have ever
known, she left a great impression on me
she was the kindest lady. Mrs. Elkins, as I remember
her was my First Grade Teacher, at Sharondale Elemetary
she gave me a colorful valentine box, it was special to me.
She taught my daughter, in 3rd Grade. We where both
blessed to have her in our lives. She will be missed.
