Ruby Beatrice "Bea" Shannon COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Ruby Beatrice "Bea" Shannon, 88, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016, in Southland Memorial Gardens with Reverend Dr. Michael T. Bragan officiating the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mrs. Shannon died Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Born on on October 8, 1928 in Greer, she was a daughter of the late Ennis Jones and Daisy Lee Belue. Bea graduated from the South Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, where she was later Vice President of the Alumni Association. She was a registered nurse at Baptist Hospital for twenty years and retired from North Carolina State University Health Services. She was a past President of the Nursing Association of South Carolina. Bea loved doing crafts and was an avid reader. She was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, where she was in the Triple "L" Club and was a church Elder. Surviving are son, Philip W. Shannon of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; son-in-law, Greg DeFrain of Columbia; grandson, Adam DeFrain; sisters, Pat Parkman of Columbus, Georgia and Christine Smith of Spartanburg. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, John "Jack" S. Shannon; step mother, Ethel Jones; daughter, Jackie Lee DeFrain; and sister, Dot Senkbill.
