Ruby C. Sloboda

Ruby Mary Crompton Sloboda, loving mother and devoted wife, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was a resident of Heartfields Assisted Living in Stafford County.

A former resident of Waterford, N.Y., Mrs. Sloboda was born in 1926 in Peterborough, England, the daughter of Winifred and Percy Crompton. During World War II, she met her husband, Andrew, a flier with the U.S. Army Air Forces 8th Air Force, and came to this country in 1946 to be married. She worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and retired as chief of withholding tax in 1989.

Mrs. Sloboda is survived by Andrew, her husband of nearly 59 years. She also will be missed by her son, Roger Sloboda of Hanover, N.H.; her daughter, Angela Minnick of Fredericksburg; her sister, Monica Oosterlinck of Hamilton, Ontario; and her grandchildren, Aaron Sloboda of Baltimore, Md., Sarah Catalano of Fairfax, Lara Sloboda of Boston, Mass., Blair Lawrence of Charlottesville and Laurel Minnick of Fredericksburg. She will be missed by her numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Friends are invited to visit at the funeral home at noon.
