Ruby, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend was the middle child born to Charles and Bernice Palmer Oaks in Navasota on Thursday, July 19, 1951.  Remarkably known as "Chi Chi", Ruby attended Navasota ISD and graduated from Navasota High School in 1969.  She was a skillful majorette and an elite runner on the tack team.

Ruby proclaimed to follow Christ in her early childhood and was reared in the gospel at Lee Tabernacle United Methodist Church.  She transferred her membership to Salem House of Blessing under the leadership of Pastor Charles Tompkins where she remained until her transition to paradise.

Ruby united in marriage to George E. Thomas and within that union, two sons were born, Daman "Tiger" and Derrick "Tiny".  She was employed by Grimes Memorial Hospital (CHI St. Joseph Navasota Hospital) for over 20 years, where she worked as a data entry clerk.  After complications of health issues and she was no longer able to work, Ruby volunteered for the Head Start Program.  She received the Outstanding Volunteer Award for her service.  Doing word search puzzles, eating gummy bears and spoiling her grandchildren was her favorite past time.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald "Don" Oaks.

She is survived by her loving family, sons, Damon Thomas of Navasota and Derrick Thomas (Angela) of Katy; a sister, Marie Banks (Curtis) of Pearland and four grandchildren, Derron, D'Wanna and Donovan Thomas of Navasota and Jared Thomas of Katy.
