One of Rudi Nussbaum's PSU teaching assignments back in the late 70s was to try to inculcate some idea of physics into the unreceptive minds of architecture students. I was privileged to be one of his students during the 1977-78 school year, and still remember just how interesting he made our studies, and what a window in the world of energy he opened for me. He was truly a great teacher. It was my pleasure years later to meet Rudi's son Fred through our shared interest in transportation...

I took a woman's study class at PSU where I met Elka who gave me her father's phone number. Rudi was a guest speaker in my Minority Studies classes at Canby High School for several years. His stories of hiding during German occupation were spell-binding. He was a wonderful, compassionate, and intelligent gentleman. I will never forget him.

You and Rudi were kind enough to welcome me and other members of the class into your home for a wonderful evening that I still remember fondly. Rudi was an exceptional human being who we were honored to know, and I know my parents valued his and Laureen's friendship and support as neighbors in Portland.

I am sad to learn of Rudi's death. I worked with his daughter Elka and remember him for his generosity. He volunteered at the Oregon Food Bank and truly cared about other people.

I enjoyed working with Rudi on the board. He made so many contributions and was always fun. And of course his efforts in the community will not be forgotten...I will miss his piano playing
