Dr. Verderber served as Professor of Speech & Forensics at the University of Cincinnati (1966-1969) while I earned my bachelor's degree in Rhetoric & Public Address. He was my teacher and mentor, serving on my Master's Committee in 1976. I kidded him when he used me as a footnote in the first edition of his textbook from debate class that I was going to write a book when I became rich and famous entitled I Began as a Footnote. I never became either, but I attempt to emulate Dr. Verderber...

Dr. Verderber was a very inspirational professor to me during my undergraduate years at the University of Cincinnati. He was kind hearted, and taught well in a very difficult time for the country.

I will never forget the day Dr. Verderber realized I was a broadcasting major taking his class. He told me in front of the class, I expect you to be able to cruise thru my class because of your previous instruction. Oh the fun we had in class! He would stop me mid-speech and say, start over, give it some passion. I'd finish my 3-5 minute speech and he would be smiling and laughing. I was the Drama Queen of the quarter! Yes, I learned how to give the correct pause, and how to project correctly...
