Russell L. Byers, 84, of Ruffs Dale, passed away peacefully Friday evening, Sept. 6, 2024, in UPMC Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh. Russell was born May 27, 1940, in Scottdale, a son of the late Thomas and Sarah Amanda (Cowan) Byers. He was married to Ida (Trayter) Byers, who passed away in 2019. Russell was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School, class of 1958, and was a lifelong farmer, diligently working the family farm. He also drove heavy equipment and was truly a hard-working man, never stopping, working up to days prior to passing away! Russell loved fishing, hunting, making maple syrup from the family farm, sawmilling, and spending time with his family most of all. He had a heart as big as his personality and loved talking to people. Russell will be sadly missed by his loving family, his daughter, Tammy Hegedus, and husband, Richard of South Huntingdon Township; his two grandchildren, Amanda King and husband, Michael and Richard Hegedus Jr., and wife, Jessica; and his two great-grandchildren, Gage Hegedus and Evelyn King; his sisters-in-law, Jane, Jean, and Betty Byers; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife of 55 years, he was preceded in death by his son, Russell L. Byers Jr.; his brothers, Zane, George, Ernest, and Jim Byers; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean Eichholtz and husband, Charles, and Iva Leighty and husband, James. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING ST., SCOTTDALE (http://www.fergusonfunerals.com). At the request of the decedent, there will be no viewing or service. Love Lasts Forever!
