Owens and Brumley Funeral Home - Wichita Falls Obituary

Russell William Detwiler, 78, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2021.

Russell was born in Chesaning, Michigan, on January 19, 1943, to Jack and Mary Detwiler. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division. After the service, he moved to Owosso, Michigan, where he married Cecilia (DeRoche) on May 1, 1965. They remained happily married and best friends for 55 years. He then completed a tool and die maker apprenticeship and shortly after, started a career with General Motors AC Spark Plug Division. He quickly moved into manufacturing supervision in 1974 and moved to Wichita Falls in 1978. He remained a resident of Wichita Falls in retirement except for a short time in Owosso. Russell was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church in 1995. His work as a deacon, and specifically prison ministry, was his great passion during retirement. In this role, he spent his time volunteering at the James Allred Unit Prison in Wichita Falls and the Saginaw County Jail in Michigan.

Russell is survived by his loving wife Cecilia; three children; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on February 25, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls. Rite of committal will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
